The conversation surrounding the desire for a pay increase has always been a topical yet contentious point of discussion.
The desire for individual pay increase has always existed. Whether it’s felt deserved because of individual performance, hours worked, projects managed, or maybe even because you’re getting paid less than the average employee would in that role, it’s not a new conversation.
It’s even discussed by politicians when many examine the need for an increase in minimum wage from $18.29 per hour or $694.90 per 38 hour week.
Latest interest rate projections for 2018 have furthered this conversation on the need for a minimum wage increase. With interest rates projected to rise in 2018, and the cost of living is predicted to increase as a result, is it necessary that we counterbalance this prediction with a pay increase?
But, do Australian workers really believe they deserve this pay increase? And with rising interest rates, is this year the year?
Instead of assuming results, in LiveHire fashion, we took the following question to the Australian public to find out what they really think:
“Do you think you deserve a pay increase this year?”
The results were clear, with 89% of respondents stating that yes, they do deserve a pay increase.
90% of female respondents stated that they deserved a pay increase, compared to 86% of men.
Regardless of if it was the projected increase in interest rates, it’s clear that a huge majority of the Australian workers believe that they deserve a pay raise.
